Located in Coal Township, Pennsylvania, the Anthracite Outdoor Adventure Area (AOAA) is one of the largest and most diverse off-road parks in the eastern United States. Spanning over 8,000 acres of reclaimed coal land, AOAA offers miles of rugged terrain carved through the Appalachian foothills — where mud, rock, and history meet.

With trails for Jeeps, 4x4s, ATVs, side-by-sides, and dirt bikes, AOAA is a year-round destination for anyone who loves adventure on four (or two) wheels. Trail Network Overview

Trail Difficulty Ratings

AOAA uses a color-coded rating system to help you find trails that match your vehicle and skill level:

  • 🟢 Green (Easy): Graded gravel and dirt roads — perfect for beginners or stock 4x4s

  • 🔵 Blue (Intermediate): Rutted, off-camber climbs and small rock obstacles

  • Black (Hard): Technical lines, large rocks, tight turns, and elevation changes

  • 🔴 Red (Expert): Extreme terrain, deep ruts, steep climbs, and heavy articulation zones

The most popular zone for Jeeps and 4x4s, featuring rock gardens, scenic overlooks, and a wide mix of trail levels.

  • Crawlers Ridge: Technical rock sections and narrow climbs

  • Pipeline Run: Mud, ruts, and off-camber sections — a driver’s test in wet weather

East Area
